Body Painting

The Body Painting is a collaboration with Lili Phelouzat, a painted actively working in London and Tonga Schneider.

Body talks.

Body Painting is one the first form of  artistic expression used by our ancestors, together with cave painting. It is a tradition ingrained in our roots, since the beginning of Humanity. Body painting has been present in every continent. Even before speech appeared, and well before the first engraved stone. Mankind applied pigments to his body to assert, and exist in relation to a circle, to a tribe. In a tribe the morals change and man feels protected and strong.

Our  epidermis, our “skin deep identity”. Our "Body talks", however ephemeral they are, they seek to capture the essence of the body, it’s outlines, spaces and shapes it can create. Highlighting the body’s surface, making it more powerful and more colorful, bringing lines and shapes together whilst intuitively translating dreams and new realities.

“Body talks” wants to bring people together to create a new tribe. We want to unify people [ in the city ], for them to feel they belong to a group with similar beliefs and interests. As well a group that has similar aprecietions of aesthetics and beauty, which give ability to highlight the positive.

So of course many questions arise. Why do we have the need to create a tribe? We strongly believe in instinct and immediate connections. We work with people who are close to us, people we feel comfortable with and vice verso. There is no “pushing” in the process. It is an act of trust and sharing. Naturally by applying our paint onto someone else's body the question of identity becomes very present.

Are we imposing an identity or are we adding an identity to their identity? It seems we are doing both. The person is accepting their new identity, their new aesthetic, their new skin. Maybe after all they do find their true identity by escaping the conventions and freeing their bodies. The person being painted fully accepts his imperfections, which becomes beautiful and marks each persons uniqueness. A lot of attention is given to the persons body and all its details without an erotic eye but an appreciation for them and their form. They open up and trust us, which results into an honest and unique form of interaction.

However, body painting is ephemeral, and we think this brings out the beauty. It is like being in a time capsule, enjoyed to the fullest because of its time limit. In this time we want people to rediscover their childhood, we want to bring the innocence back. That little thing that many of us have long forgotten.
